Social Media – Is it really important?

by Divya on November 1, 2011

Its 2011 and Social Media matters still or should we say it’s what matters most on digital. Social media is no more a part of digital but everything around us is getting social.

There was a time in 2007 when I wrote that we cannot avoid social media… now the point is if you are not on social do you even exist?

Not being social isn’t even an option anymore. The simple mantra of marketing is “be where your consumers are” and that’s where they are. They are talking, sharing opinions about your products, reviewing and rating them where their friends can see it. There is no more a single and straight marketing funnel.

For marketers social media gives them real time access to data and analytics, instant feedback on their campaigns and brand initiatives along with an understanding of consumer journey and behaviour.

The question for businesses is no longer, “should I be using social media to communicate?” but “how should I?”  While national data can point to broad demographic trends, and the rise of new social media platforms, each business needs to become intimately acquainted with its own customers’ behavior, in order to continue to reach them in our increasingly networked world.
